I checked this machine out and it works. It's electric and has a cord that's not visible in the picture. It does need a microphone and headphones. There is a total of 9 boxes of cards. Two small boxes and one large box have blanks that you can record. I did not check out the recording mainly because I don't have a microphone. The other boxes include:

  • consonant digraphs
  • consonant blends
  • word parts
  • basic skills for beginning readers
  • multiplication
  • basic vocabulary building including tricky words
  • extra cards made by a teacher (handwritten)

The boxes are pretty worn, one has several tears.
