Kelvin & Hughes (London) 4" Brass Maritime Sextant
You are bidding on a beautiful piece of maritime history.
According to this site http://www.archiveshub.ac.uk/news/0311kel.html the company started to do business under the name "Kelvin & Hughes" in 1947. Even though this item does not bear a date of manufacture, it is likely that it was made between 1950 and 1960.
The sextant has been used but doesn't show any area of corrosion. As I don't know how to use such an instrument, I cannot guarantee for sure that it is in working condition, but it certainly looks like it is. It's in excellent condition.
The instrument comes in a beautifully crafted wooden box. The box has obviously been exposed to the elements and you might want to apply a fresh coat of finish. Unless, like I do, you prefer the older look.
