Rival Magazine is the first ever joint publication between Duke-UNC focusing on student life on both campuses. Rival Magazine serves to reinforce and redefine this wonderful rivalry. Between enemy and ally, friend and foe, Carolina blue and Duke blue, there is a balance Rival seeks to explore. Rival is about collective energy, energy willed from two separate bodies and channeled towards the improvement of the entire community.

Rival circulates quarterly to roughly 12,000 UNC and Duke students, faculty, administrators, and members of the surrounding community. The magazine is a thirty-two page, high gloss publication and is sponsored by two national magazines, Mental Floss Magazine and Worthwhile Magazine. Rival is distributed as a free magazine on both campuses. Ultimately, Rival Magazine is committed to producing a high quality collegiate magazine on par with many national publications.

Vision
One day, Rival Magazine will completely redefine the way in which neighboring, partner institutions interact and collaborate and will act as a primary medium of communication between multiple rivalries across the nation.

Mission
Rival’s Mission is threefold:

1. Product Mission
   Rival aims produce print and electronic magazines that are recognized as the most trusted, reliable, and credible resources of student centered journalism throughout Durham and Chapel Hill .
2. Economic Mission
   Rival aims to serve its student and commercial clients by creating high quality display advertising that appeals directly to our readership and encourages the use of client services.
3. Social Mission
   Rival aims strengthen and promote intercollegiate communication, connection and collaboration between Duke and UNC by raising awareness of shared social, cultural, academic, and service opportunities. Not only does Rival Magazine aim to change student behavior by providing them with information and knowledge that promotes student growth, Rival itself is a microcosm of the cross-campus collaboration it seeks to create and support.

Organization
Rival Magazine is run entirely by symmetrical student staffs at Duke and Carolina. These staffs operate cooperatively through web based communication systems. Beyond producing a magazine, the organization also serves as a connector between the Duke and Carolina student communities. Rival actively co-sponsors many Carolina-Duke events and helps to coordinate collaborative and connective efforts.
