Astronomy Books – Set of 6 – Excellent - No Reserve

You are bidding on a set of 6 used amateur Astronomy books.

This is an wonderful collection of astronomy books for the beginning to intermediate astronomer.

The first one is NIGHTWATCH by Terence Dickinson. This is the third edition, revised and expanded for use through 2010. Published by Firefly Books in 1998. 176 pages that are crammed full of color photos, and a complete set of sky charts. This is a field guide to the Universe. One of the most popular amateur astronomy books, NIGHTWATCH has become a standard reference guide for stargazers. Every page contains new material including 100 new color photographs, and diagrams with improved star charts with high-precision Hipparcos star distances.

This edition is faithful to the ultra-simplified no jargon philosophy of the original book, but at the same time, offer substantially more practical information for the novice and intermediate level amateur astronomer. A MUST HAVE book for your astro library.

This is a soft-cover volume that is used, but in very good to excellent condition. It has a spiral binding that permits you to open to any page and lay the book our flat. Perfect for using the charts during an observing session under the dark skies.

Book 2 is ATLAS OF THE NIGHT SKY edited by Storm Dunlop and star maps by Wil Tirion.

This is a used, hard-cover edition, with the original plastic jacket intact. Condition is near-new.

Crescent Books is the publisher, it has been printed and bound in ITALY. This is a large-format, PRACTICAL ATLAS 80 pages, for the amateur astronomer.

Shows the positions of the stars and planets in the night sky. Complete series of Northern AND Southern Hemisphere EPOCH 2000.0 STAR maps (WIL TIRION).

Detailed analysis of the 88 constellations, moon maps, observing the planets, observing meteors, aurorae, comets, sun, clusters, nebulae, and GALAXIES.

'Book 3 is ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ASTRONOMY – A comprehensive survey of our Solar System, Galaxy, and Beyond. Book is edited by Colin Ronan, and published by Chartwell Books. This nice HARD-COVER publication was printed in ITALY as well. (no publication date shown) Original dust jacket is intact and very good condition. The entire book is in very good to excellent condition. 240 pages, crammed full with many excellent photos, many of them in full color. The book has a terrifc set of star charts, showing all of the M objects, and tons of NGC objects.

TAKEN FROM THE JACKET: The ENCYCLOPEDIA is a comprehensive survey reflecting current research in astronomy, but written for the general reader.

Differing from most encyclopedias of astronomy, this book echoes modern research by beginning with the stars and the Sun, the way they generate their energy and their birth..

Galaxies are explored to a depth not usually found in popular works, while pulsars, and black holes are seen as part of today’s dynamic universe. This edition includes a host of specially prepared illustrations, a superb collection of photographs, detailed star charts, tables of useful information, a glossary and an extensive index. This encyclopedia is a complete reference book on astronomy for everyone...

Book 4 is THE PRACTICAL ASTRONOMER by Brian Jone. Published by Simon and Shuster-Fireside, 1990. This soft-cover book is used by in near-new condition. 160 pages, and more than 275 photographs and diagrams, including month-by-month sky search charts.

This book not only shows you WHAT to look for, but exactly HOW to go about looking for it. Based on the latest findings in astronomical research, the book explains the practical keys to successful observation.

Whether you are observing with the naked eye, binoculars, or a telescope.

Book 5 is THE SKYWATCHER HANDBOOK by Colin Ronan and Storm Dunlop. Published by Crown Publishing, and has 224 pages. Used, but in near new condition. A nice little book that covers the full range of observational astronomy. The earth, moon, satellites, sun, planets, stars, the Milky Way and beyond. What to look for, how to find them, what equipment to use, building a home observatory, recording observations and more.

The jacket states: The Skywatchers handbook is an illustrated reference book that provides all one needs to interpret the skies of the Northern hemisphere by day and night. How to identify and classify stars, galaxies, and constellations. Full guide to the solar system, meteors, comets, observing and recording the day and night sky and techniques.

Book 6 is PETERSON FIELD GUIDES – STARS AND PLANETS, by Donald Menzel and Jay Paschoff,

2nd edition published by Houghton-Mifflin 1995. Maps and star charts by Wil Tirion.

This power-packed little pocket-rocket is jam packed with the right stuff you need if you are going back-packing in dark sky country. 475 pages with 72 monthly sky maps, for moth Northern and Southern Hemisphere. 52 detailed ATLAS Charts of the entire sky, with descriptions of the objects you can see in each region. Maps of the Moon surface, special timetables showing when the brightest stars, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and planets are visible. Over 230 photographs, 82 in color of the most interesting objects in the sky. Tables of double and variable stars and other useful information for the amateur astronomer.

What a most useful and interesting collection of books for the amateur astronomer. I have collected these over the last 10 years or so. While planetary positions do change monthly and yearly, the vast majority of the heavens do not change substantially. The charts and tables in these volumes are still highly useful for night-time observing today.

I have set the shipping and handling up at $35.00 to any USA Desination.  If you believe this is too high, please do not bid on this item. It is hardly worth the trouble to write up this ad, post it, box up the books and drive to the post office for anything less. I have set the initial bid at a really low price. If no one else bids, you get an excellent deal on a pair of terrific books on this subject. I don’t list on eBay for a living, but want others who are really interested in this subject to have excellent materials to use for the hobby.

I will leave feedback for all transactions. If you provide prompt payment for purchase, be assured that you will obtain most positive feedback. I hope that you will enjoy the books.

Item will ship from California within 2 business days of receipt of payment. I accept PayPal and money orders.
