On September 1, 1939, the German military machine known as Blitzkrieg (lightning war) ripped through the border of Poland with it's 2,000 planes and 2,800 tanks overwhelming the ill prepared Polish army. Two days later Britain and France declared war against Germany and the Second World War was underway.
WWII officially ended on September 2, 1945, when the prime minister of Japan, Mamoru Shigemitsu, signed the formal instrument of surrender on the deck of the U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay. During the six years between the invasion of Poland and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world was witness to the most destructive war in history. Armed militia of more than seventeen million fought by land, sea, and by air. Thousands of soldiers perished under fire and many thousands more were severely wounded. The civilian toll (from concentration camps, bombings, disease, and starvation) reached uncountable millions.
These posters were issued by the U.S. and allied governments as well as Germany and Japan during World War II. Posters were often used to encourage enthusiasm or surrender on the battle field, patriotism and conservation on the homefront, or to highlight other aspects of the war effort. None of these posters have been censored so please keep that in mind before purchasing this CD.
