Item Description

Up for auction are 7 Colonial States of America and & Revolutionary War FACSIMILE Notes.  These notes are all REPROS.  Very Nice and all are in Mint Condition.  The 7 notes are:

  1. New Hampshire - 7 Dollars - April 29, 1780.  The hole punched in the note was the official method in New Hampshire of cancellation after it was redeemed.
  2. Rhode Island and Providence Plantations - 3 Dollars - July 2, 1780.  Issued by Rhode Island and guaranteed by the United States.  This note was to be redeemed by 1786.
  3. Connecticut - 10 Shillings - June 1, 1780.  Note the rate of exchange in terms of Spanish milled dollars.
  4. Massachusetts-Bay - 8 Dollars - May 5, 1780.  Massachusetts-Bay was the first colony to issue paper money in 1690.  Its name was changed to "Commonwealth of Massachusetts" in 1780.
  5. Virginia - 250 Dollars or 75 Pounds - 5/1/1781.  The rate of "one for Forty" on the bill is the value in gold or silver, and indicates the severe inflation caused by the Revolutionary War.
  6. United States Continental Currency - 20 Dollars - September 26, 1778.  Currency printed before 1777 contains the words "United Colonies"; issues after that say "United States."
  7. North Carolina - 4 Dollars - August 8, 1778.  The motto "A Lesson to Arbitrary Kings, and Wicked Ministers" is an interesting example of rebellion against the British.
