Offered up for bids is an unusual type of drum. I have been advised by an eBayer that the drum is from New Guinea.
It is made from a log that was hollowed out in what must have taken a very long time to complete. The thickness of the walls of the drum vary from just under a quarter inch to just over. There are some cracks but nothing that would weaken it structually.
It has a pretty good tone when you tap the walls with a finger or knuckle.
It stands about 35 inches high.
The log had to be at least 10-11 inches wide for the drum to be made as there is a handle in the middle that was fashioned out of the complete log.
The drum is hollow from one end to the other and has an hourglass shape.
The top skin of drum is gone but there are remains of a skin around the edges that looks like some kind of lizard.
The top half of the drum has some designs chisled in the wood on one side.
The drum was found in a barn on an abandoned North Dakota farmstead that a scrap iron collector was cleaning up for its owner. He was told he could have whatever he found on the farmstead be it iron, other metal or whatever.
The handle was broken off when the drum was found but was laying close to it so he glued it back on.
He later sold it at a rummage sale.
Here is an opportunity to get a pretty unique item.
In any event use your best judgement and bid accordingly.
Winner pays $25.00 S&H.
