Item Description

Beautiful pair of  blue parcel gilt porcelain candlesticks, now electrified and fitted as lamps. The candlesticks are circa 19th Century and the lamp shades and finials are late 20th century. An ormolu base has been added (gilt metal).  The cobalt blue porcelain is surrounded by decorative gilt in an arabesque pattern (a complex and ornate design of intertwined floral, foliate and geometrical figures).  The candlesticks measure approximately 11" high and the total height from the bottom of the base to the top of the finial is approximately 27".   The width of the lamp shades is 11".  The makers mark on the bottom of the candlestick imitates the Sevres mark (intertwined "L's").  The letter "L" in the middle of the scrolled cartouche refers to the date a piece of porcelain from the Sevres Manufactory would have been made in 1764).

In 18th century France, Sevres was the national porcelain maker and after the Seven Years' War, Sevres became the dominant manufacturer of porcelain in Europe. Known particularly for its brilliantly colored enamel grounds, its use of lavish ( and often tooled) gilding, and "jeweled" decoration, Sevres wares were imititated by competitors throughout the Continent.  It is believed that this is a pair of those brilliantly colored and lavishly decorated candlesticks made in the manner of Sevres.

Limited Guarantee:

We have attempted to make a consistent effort in correctly describing the property to be sold.  The descriptions carry a limited guarantee. It is a guarantee to protect you against major discrepancies in our description that would have a major effect upon the value of the item.   Under no circumstances do we guarantee against anything less than a major discrepancy.  This limited guarantee covers authenticity. It also covers any major restoration or repair not described. We also guarantee against fakes, reproductions or major fabrications. Items “attributed” to a particular artist or studio, “in the manner of”, “circle of” and “after” are covered by the condition guarantee only.  Refunds based on authenticity must be accompanied by at least a supporting written statement from a professionally recognized and qualified authority on his/her professional letterhead, stating that the art work is not by the hand/studio of the artist/workshop described. As outlined above, our guarantee is limited, however, it is almost unique in a business that operates “Caveat Emptor”.  This is not a perfect system, however, and it is important to be aware of that.  Our intention is to be as fair as possible in our descriptions but it is virtually impossible to adequately describe an antique or collectible item that has been used and shows signs of wear.

Returns & Refunds:

If within 7 calendar days after receiving your package, the item has a major discrepancy from the description we will refund your money once we receive the item back in the same condition. We must receive the item back within a maximum of 21 days from the end of the sale. If item is not returned within the 21 day period, all sales are final with no refund. Less then major problems or discrepancies are not part of the guarantee and no refund will be considered. The buyer is still responsible for all shipping, packaging, insurance charges and any post auction fees. If the item is damaged in shipping, please contact the shipper for a refund via their insurance.
