The Gutenberg Bible was printed in 1450 -1456. It is probably the most expensive book on Earth. The last copy sold fetched over two million dollars. o ORIGINAL - Individual pages sell for $ 50,000 to $ 100,000.
It is lavishly illustrated by hand
In 2007 48 Gutenberg 42-line Bibles were known to exist. Twenty one are perfect. The breakdown of ownership is Germany - 12; the US 11; United Kingdom 8; Mainz, Russia and the Vatican City have two each. Two have been lost, one destroyed in 1914.
There are two known versions. One with 36 lines which was printed a year later using some of the print from the 41 line Bible.
This facsimile is the 42 line copy.
