HALF PINT PEWTER MEASURE/TANKARD JAMES YATES GEORGIAN?
A nice 19th century pewter measure/tankard of pleasant shape. It is made by James Yates, and also has a number of other stamps with numbers underneath (three with VR and a crown, one with GR and a crown). I gather that the numbers relate to the town or city where the accuracy of the measure was tested. I think this one was mostly tested in Sunderland, and I would guess that the 'GR' stands for one of the pre-Victoria monarchs.
The piece measures 9 cm tall, and is in nice condition with good colour.
