RARE and unique Antique "Traveling Bed", mid 1800's.
I bought this piece from an antique dealer in San Diego, CA years ago and was told it's history at that time. My starting price is 4 TIMES LESS than I paid for it at that time. The antique Bed, Storage, Cabinet must be quite rare and you can tell it was constructed by a very creative Carver / Designer. I was told it was made of teak wood and it appears to have been all hand carved, mortised, pegged, and tendoned. It has 4 wheels and does move on them though it is a heavy piece and I've not really ever moved the bed very far. The headboard is removable and reversable, hand carved, the sides and end panels appear to be one piece and hand carved into raised panels with a sun burst and what appears to be a flower motif. Both ends on the top do open for storage with iron rings (I think there may have been latches at one time but they have been long missing). There is a center divider that separates the interior in half to separate maybe food stuffs from bedding or household goods or whatever. The condition is strong and sturdy tho the top boards and corner joints are somewhat warped, some of the pegs are loose, and the wheels are a bit wobbly and may need to be re-pegged but these items do not affect it's sturdyness. It measures about 67" long x 34" wide. It is 20" tall and stands 35" tall at the headboard. If you are a collector of early primitives, then you know that this bed has to be rare ... if you have any questions, ask and I will do my best to answer them.
