The introductory text reads "An Act to prohibit, until the End of the next session of Parliament, the Exportation of Jesuit's Bark from Great Britain" The size of the document is 32.0 cm x 19.4 cm and apart from the front page there are 2 additional sides of text. The document was printed by George Eyre and Andrew Strachan and features a royal watermark on the first page. Jesuit's bark was the name given to the bark of the Cinchona tree, a cure and remedy for most forms of malaria. In 1808, Britain, as well as much of Europe, was in conflict with Napoleon. The start of the Peninsula War in that year required the British to keep all the Jesuit's Bark that they had in case it was needed to be used by the Army and Navy in Spain and Portugal. | | |
