Antique Spanish Colonial Silver Flower or Azucena
This is a beautifully rendered antique filigree silver flower that would have rested in the hands of a carved Madonna or Santo from South America. The metal is high content silver that has been exquisitely formed from filigreed silver, a style that was embraced in colonial South America in the 18th and 19th centuries, and was referred to as silver lace. It is in good condition, only a break on one of the graceful petals, not readily seen. The flower is typically shown with Santos (usually Saint Joseph or Saint Anthony), the Santo Niño or Christ Child, and the Madonna as a symbol of purity. This is a wonderful representation of the exquisite silver work of colonial South America.
