Item Description
Beautifully detailed full color lithograph: Map of "The Dominions of the Angevins" . Angevin is the name applied to the residents of Anjou, a former province of France, as well as to the residents of Angers. It is also applied to three distinct medieval dynasties which originated as counts (from 1360, dukes) of the western French province of Anjou (of which angevin is the adjectival form), but later came to rule far greater areas including England, Ireland, Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Naples and Sicily, and Jerusalem. The first of these Angevin dynasties ruled England in some form or another from the reign of Henry II, beginning in 1154, until the House of Tudor came to power when Richard III fell at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. The map is 6 1/2 inches wide by10 inches tall. This map is an original print from A Short History of the English People by J.R. Green, published by Macmillan and Co, London, 1894. The print is in excellent condition showing no foxing and only age-related even darkening. Please note that the blue border is not part of the print but has been added to show the outer edge of the print.
