Up for auction is this Silver Champion Trophy Cup awarded to 40's Major League Baseball pitcher Jesse Flores when he was Head Athletic Coach at Jordan High School in Los Angeles, California. This 5" tall silver-plated trophy cup was awarded by the Helms Athletic Foundation and features a bas-relief medallion with an ancient Greece discus thrower. (See all photos below) Inscribed below the medallion are the words: "JESSE FLORES COACH JORDAN HIGH SCHOOL CALIFORNIA STATE C. I. F. CHAMPIONS 1960". Marked "DODGE INC. LA" on the bottom.

Jesse (Sandoval) Flores (November 2, 1914 - December 17, 1991) was a Major League Baseball pitcher. The 5'10", 175 lb. right-hander was a native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent before the 1938 season, and he played for the Cubs (1942), Philadelphia Athletics (1943-1947), and Cleveland Indians (1950). Jesse Flores was the first native Mexican to pitch in the big leagues, in 1942, and spent seven years pitching for the Cubs and Philadelphia A's and Indians. Later on, as a Major League Baseball scout, Flores signed Bert Blyleven, Lyman Bostock, Rick Dempsey and Reggie Smith.
