Excellent Little Brass "Spyglass" Telescope
Antique / Vintage
Here's an excellent little brass telescope that is surprisingly powerful. I'm not sure of its exact age, but I would definitely put as World War II or earlier - and it may be much older than that. My Dad had one as a boy in the 1930's, a treasured gift from a favourite uncle, and I remember being allowed to use it on occasion in my own youth. This one looks old in comparison.
This is an actual working brass telescope with three sections. It is just 5 inches long when closed and 11 inches long when fully extended. I think it is either 5X or 7X power, but it is unmarked so that is just a guess. There is no manufacturer's mark or country of origin.
This mini spyglass is in very good condition, except for some flaking of the paint on the largest section. Even this has aged it gracefully as the brass underneath peeks through in a most attractive way. The brass tubes have a nice patina, but could be polished if bright brass is preferred. The pressed cardboard case is included, but is in poor condition, with some crumbling of the lid and the entire bottom missing.
I am listing two other small telescopes today in other categories. They are both nice items and even smaller than this one. Definitely worth a look!
