Item Description

This is a brand new copy of the book,

"Eighteenth Century Furniture"

Noted for the unrivalled quiality of its craftsmanship, the furniture of the eighteenth century evolved from the heavy styles of the seventeenth centruy to the elegance adn opulence typified by the highly detailed designs of the Rococo period.  This was succeeded by neo-classical styles which were perfectly suited to the airy interiors of the day.

A handful of designers and cabinet makers imposed their own distinctive styles on the world of eighteenth century furniture: Thomas Chippendale, Robert Adam, and George hepplewhite who produced pattern books which were copied the world over.  They were influenced by the popular neo-classical designs of the era, as well as by the designs of China, the colourful and elegant 'chinioserie' so evident in the middle years of the century.

With a carefully-chosen selection of colour illustrations, EIGHTEENTH CENTURY FURNITRE encapsulates the refinement and grace inherent in the trends of a turbulent century.
